Encarnacion not concerned with back tightness

Edwin Encarnacion isn’t worried about his back after tightness forced him from Wednesday night’s contest.

DETROIT – Edwin Encarnacion isn’t worried about his back after tightness forced him from Wednesday night’s 8-2 Toronto Blue Jays victory over the Detroit Tigers an inning early.

“I don’t think it’s anything bad,” the star slugger said afterwards. “We’ll see (Thursday) if it maybe needs one day, or if I can play DH. We’ll see (Thursday).”

Encarnacion said his back started tightening up Tuesday but really picked up Wednesday. No single incident aggravated it, he said, although in the eighth inning he had to awkwardly come across first after Brett Lawrie’s relay from third after touching the bag there on an Eugenio Suarez grounder.

“It was getting tighter and tighter after inning by inning,” said Encarnacion.

He was 1-for-3 with a single and an intentional walk Wednesday.
