Gonzalez to Dodgers rookie: Do opposite of what Puig tells you

The Dodgers have a plethora of young stars and with the rosters expanding in September, they’re giving another one a chance to show what he can do at the big leagues.

But before he made his MLB debut, outfielder Alex Verdugo received some advice from veteran Adrian Gonzalez — and it had to do with Yasiel Puig.

While Gonzalez was likely joking, Verdugo was certainly looking for any advice he could get. He made his major league debut Friday in centre field for the Dodgers against the San Diego Padres.

After bouncing around the minors last season, Puig has put together a decent campaign for the Dodgers this year, hitting .258/.346/.480 with a career-high 24 home runs.

He would definitely be able to provide the rookie with some tips and tricks.

Verdugo is coming off a solid year with triple-A Oklahoma City. In 117 games, he hit 314/.389/.436 with six home runs.

Manager Dave Roberts says he’s willing to give the 21-year-old a shot in September, but it’s too early to say if he’ll be a part of the team’s post-season plans.

Whether he’s with the team for a month or longer, Verdugo is clearly keen to learn as much as he can in the big-leagues.
