Happ says he’d be ‘foolish’ not to consider return to Blue Jays

Sportsnet's Shi Davidi joined the Tim and Sid show to discuss whether or not the Blue Jays' should be patient with a potential J.A. Happ trade.

Toronto Blue Jays all-star J.A. Happ is currently at the centre of trade rumours, but if he is indeed dealt before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, he might not be gone long.

Happ is due to hit free agency at the end of the season, which means he will be free to sign wherever he sees the best fit. That may very well be back in Toronto, where the 35-year-old has experienced the most successful stretch of his career over the past two-and-a-half years.

Speaking with Mike Wilner on Sportsnet 590 The FAN’s Blue Jays pre-game show Tuesday, Happ claimed he and his family have enjoyed being in Toronto and he is certainly open to exploring the possibility of coming back in 2019.

“I’d be foolish to not entertain [a return],” Happ said. “I’m so happy that we decided to come here and like I say, I’d be foolish to not consider it, for sure.”

Happ holds a 10-5 record with a 4.44 ERA through 18 starts this season. He is in the final season of a three-year, $36-million contract he signed with the Blue Jays in November 2015.
