TORONTO — Blue Jays rookie Randy Ruiz had a solo home run overturned on replay in the second inning of Toronto’s game against the New York Yankees in the first video replay call at Rogers Centre.

Leading off the second on Saturday, the designated hitter hooked a 1-0 pitch from Andy Pettitte down the left-field line, with third base umpire Jeff Nelson ruling it a home run.

After Ruiz circled the bases, the umpires huddled near third before three of the crew jogged off the field and under the first-base stands to watch a replay. After about five minutes, they emerged and waved Ruiz back into the batter’s box.

Television replays indicated that the ball was indeed foul and was deflected by a fan.

Ruiz ended up grounding out to third.
