During the COVID-19 pandemic, sports heroes have taken a back seat to heroes in the medical community. So the Boston Red Sox and actor John Krasinski teamed up to celebrate those heroes.
In episode three of his Youtube show, Some Good News, Krasinski and Red Sox legend David Ortiz surprised some medical professionals in the COVID unit of Boston’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center with a tour of Fenway Park.
“I’ve got to tell you guys, from the very bottom of my heart, how much I love you and respect you for what you guys are doing,” Ortiz told the group over a video call, before announcing the Red Sox were donating four season ticket seats to the hospital “for life.”
Thanks for letting us be a part of it all, and an even bigger thanks to all the healthcare workers out there! https://t.co/dNUOwrCGyE

After the chat with Ortiz, the group boarded a Duck Boat to Fenway, where they got to run the bases, check out the Green Monster and throw out the first pitch of the 2020 season. A video on the Fenway big screen featured Boston mayor Marty Walsh, Massachusetts governor Charlie Baker as well as past and present Red Sox players giving the medical heroes a round of applause.
“I cannot articulate how unbelievably honoured I am to be seeing you guys, to be here with you guys,” Krasinski, who is from Boston, told the group over a video call. “To see you guys actually cheerful and joyful is a near impossibility and brings tears to my eyes.”
