Jordan Brand releases tribute video to Jeter

New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter talks about whether Mariano Rivera gave him advice on dealing with emotions and being respected in the game.

Derek Jeter’s illustrious career has been immortalized in a video, released by Jordan Brand.

Jeter is in his final season with the New York Yankees, capping off an outstanding career spent entirely with the club in which he won five World Series rings, and broke the Yankees’ all-time hits record.

In the video named ‘RE2PECT,’  the 40-year-old shortstop approaches the plate facing Boston Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester, while Yankees fans tip their hats to the club’s captain.

The video then cuts to the stands, where noted Yankees fans Spike Lee and former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani salute Jeter.

After cutting away from the stands, Jeter is saluted by fans across the world including the New York Police Department, New York Fire Department, New York-based rappers Jay Z and Action Bronson, actor Billy Crystal and Knicks president Phil Jackson amongst others.

The video then closes out with a shot of Michael Jordan tipping his cap to Jeter, and cuts back to an intently focused Jeter at the plate.

Jeter has been showered with gifts on his farewell tour by many major league clubs, and the video by Jordan Brand provides an illustrative look at his impact on fans in New York and across the world.

The video will be shown on television on Tuesday, during the MLB All-Star Game.
