Now more than ever, Canadians are making an impact at the highest levels of baseball. That success is largely due to strides made within Baseball Canada and the junior national team program.
Since 2001, 51 Canadians have made their MLB debut. That’s a 46 per cent increase from the same time frame 18 years prior.
The advancements made at the grassroots levels of Baseball Canada, and the junior national team’s partnership with the Toronto Blue Jays have been huge reasons for the influx of top-tier Canadian talent. A game between the Blue Jays and Team Canada has become a staple of the spring training schedule in recent years.
“Our program has a tremendous partnership and friendship with the Toronto Blue Jays organization,” Baseball Canada Head Coach and Director Greg Hamilton said on Sunday’s edition of Sportsnet’s Junior Journey, “To have a junior national team program play against the players they emulate and see on TV and dream to be is awful special.”
