Beltran dismisses zero class remark

WASHINGTON — New York Mets centre fielder Carlos Beltran has dismissed comments by Adam LaRoche accusing Beltran of having “zero class” for saying he was embarrassed to be swept by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Speaking before Saturday’s game against the Washington Nationals, Beltran said he didn’t care what LaRoche said and that he thinks the Mets are a better team than the Pirates.

The back-and-forth began after the Pirates completed a three-game sweep of the Mets on Thursday. Beltran told reporters at the time he was “embarrassed” by his team’s performance.

Pirates first baseman LaRoche took umbrage to his comments, telling the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on Friday that Beltran was showing “zero class and zero professionalism.”
