Morosi: Marlins ‘willing to engage’ on Stanton trade talks

Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald joined Baseball Central to discuss the recent news of Giancarlo Stanton clearing revocable waivers and what the proposed new ownership group will do with the Miami Marlins franchise.

With Giancarlo Stanton clearing waivers Tuesday, the Miami Marlins have the opportunity to trade MLB’s home run leader to any club before the Aug. 31 waiver trade deadline if that’s the road the franchise wants to go down.

Speaking on Sportsnet 590 The FAN’s Starting Lineup, MLB Network’s Jon Morosi says the Marlins are at least open to the possibility of moving the star slugger.

“I was told, yesterday in fact, that the Marlins are willing to engage on Giancarlo Stanton, who just might this year be the first player since Roger Maris, outside of those brackets that you might place around Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa, to hit 60 or more home runs,” Morosi said.

Morosi identified the San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Angels and Washington Nationals as intriguing landing spots for Stanton. He also went on to discuss the latest on the Justin Verlander-Houston Astros rumours and much more. Listen to the full segment below.
