The Manny Machado sweepstakes finally appear to be coming to a close.
Barring a “last-minute snag,” the Baltimore Orioles will trade their star shortstop to the Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
Machado is in the final year of his contract and is the biggest name on the trade market this summer. The four-time all-star is enjoying the best season of his career, slashing .315/.387/.575 with 24 home runs for the last-place Orioles.
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal is also reporting that a Machado deal to the Dodgers is in place.
Los Angeles finds itself clinging to a 0.5-game lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League West. With Corey Seager out for the year after Tommy John surgery, the Dodgers seem like a logical landing spot for Machado, who has made it clear he would prefer to remain at shortstop as opposed to moving back to third base.
If the Dodgers deal happens to fall through, Nightengale also reports the Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies remain in talks with Baltimore for a potential trade.
