A pair of Toronto Blue Jays teenagers will have a chance to showcase their talents at MLB All-Star weekend in Miami.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette have both been selected to play in the MLB Futures Game, which features some of baseball’s elite prospects.
The duo have spent the first half of the season sharing the left side of the infield for the Lansing Lugnuts, the Blue Jays’ Class-A affiliate.
At 19-years-old, Bichette is leading the Midwest League with a blistering .402 batting average. The shortstop has already hit eight home runs and 30 doubles through 62 games. He was ranked the No. 8 prospect by Baseball America to start the season.
Meanwhile, the Blue Jays top-ranked prospect is having himself a year at the plate in Lansing. The 18-year-old has five home runs and six stolen bases to go along with a .398 on-base percentage. Guerrero Jr. has also racked up 33 walks this season and struck out just 31 times.
Joining the Lugnuts tandem in Miami is a trio of Canadians.
First baseman Josh Naylor (Mississauga, Ont.) as well as pitchers Cal Quantrill (Port Hope, Ont.) and Mike Soroka (Calgary, Alb.) have earned spots on Team World in the July 9 event.
Top prospects from around the league participating in the game include Yoan Moncada (CWS), Michael Kopech (CWS), Amed Rosario (NYM), Victor Robles (WSH), Eloy Jiminez (CHC) and Rafael Devers (BOS).
Current big-league players featured in last year’s Futures Game include Alex Bregman, Dansby Swanson, Andrew Benintendi, Gary Sanchez and Hunter Renfroe.
