Phillies to induct Roy Halladay into Wall of Fame

A montage of some memorable moments in Roy Halladay's Major League Baseball career.

The Philadelphia Phillies will posthumously induct pitcher Roy Halladay into the team’s Wall of Fame on Aug. 4, the team announced on Tuesday.

The ceremony will take place on the Phillies Alumni Weekend ahead of a Saturday night game against the Miami Marlins and will be attended by Halladay’s family and former Philadelphia teammates.

Halladay died in November at the age of 40 when a plane he was flying crashed into the Gulf of Mexico.

“Braden, Ryan and I are so honored to have Roy remembered in this way,” Brandy Halladay said in a statement. “He will be in great company with other Phillies legends who are on the Wall of Fame. The decision made by the Phillies to induct Roy without a fan vote makes it even more meaningful. I look forward to fans and the community coming out to celebrate this special occasion with us.”

In addition to the Wall of Fame induction, the Phillies announced Halladay’s No. 34 will be flown on a flag at Citizens Bank Park for the entirety of the 2018 season.

Halladay was traded to Philadelphia in December 2009 after 12 seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays, reaching incredible heights in his first season with the Phillies. He threw the 20th perfect game in MLB history on May 29, 2010 and just the second-ever post-season no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds on Oct. 6, 2010 before being awarded the 2010 National League Cy Young.
