The Tampa Bay Rays will host the New York Yankess for a three game series at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets, to avoid Hurricane Irma, the teams announced Friday.
The games were originally scheduled for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at Tropicana Field in Tampa. The Rays will remain the home team and bat last.
“After much consideration, our games against the Yankees will be moved to Citi Field as Hurricane Irma approaches Florida,”
said Rays President Brian Auld in a press release. “We are grateful to the Mets for opening their doors to us. We are most concerned with the safety of our fans, our families, friends and neighbours.”
The move comes one week after the Houston Astros relocated a series against the Texas Rangers to Tropicana Field to avoid the devastation left by Hurricane Harvey.
