Reds activate reliever Broxton from 15-day DL

CINCINNATI, Ohio — The Cincinnati Reds activated reliever Jonathan Broxton from the 15-day disabled list before Wednesday’s game against Oakland.

RHP Pedro Villareal was optioned to Triple-A Louisville to make room on the roster for Broxton, who had been on the disabled list since June 15 with a strained right elbow. He was 2-2 with a 4.33 ERA before his injury.

Villareal appeared in one game after being recalled from Louisville for the third time this season on Saturday.
