Reds’ Aristides Aquino sets MLB record with 8 home runs in first 12 games

Aristides Aquino hit another home run to start is MLB career but it was the Washington Nationals that came away with the 7-6 win.

Aristides Aquino cannot be stopped.

The longtime minor-league journeyman has taken the baseball world by storm with his bat since being called up at the start of August, and actually earned MLB Player of the Week honours for his offensive efforts this past week.

It took eight innings on Monday, but baseball fans finally got to witness another incredible moment from the Cincinnati Reds rookie when Aquino connected on a towering shot for his eighth home run of the season.

In doing so, he set a new MLB record for most home runs in a player’s first 12 games.

Aquino shared the previous record with Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story, who, like Aquino, also hit seven home runs in his first 10 big-league games back in 2016.

Since making his season debut on Aug. 1, the 25-year-old has been quite the revelation for Cincinnati, batting .394 along with his eight home runs and 16 RBIs.

Whether it proves sustainable or not, this nearly two-week-long run has been nothing short of spectacular.
