Report: Blue Jays ‘appear close’ to trading J.A. Happ
Shi Davidi and Hazel Mae discuss the rumoured deals the Blue Jays are working on involving Seunghwan Oh and J.A. Happ, and what Toronto should be looking for in return.
Further details, including an acquiring team, are as yet unknown.
Source says Yankees are "heavy in the mix" for Happ, though no deal is done. Brewers – who lost Brent Suter to a torn UCL – could still be in play among others. Sounds like Blue Jays could be assessing offers, though it remains to be seen if those offers are final or not.
Happ, a pending free agent, is one of the better starting pitchers said to be available leading up to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. The 35-year-old sports a 4.18 ERA and 3.84 FIP over 20 starts and 114 innings this season.
He was a first-time all-star this season and could be a difference-making piece in a contending rotation down the stretch.
