Report: Blue Jays’ Marcus Stroman to make spring debut Saturday

MLB insider Mike Wilner joins Jeff Blair to discuss a few remaining battles and questions at Blue Jays camp, and where he sees Aledmys Diaz and Yangervis Solarte on opening day.

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Marcus Stroman will pitch in his first game of spring training this Saturday, when he is slated for a couple of innings against the Canadian Junior National Team, according to Rob Longley of Postmedia.

Stroman has been recovering from right shoulder inflammation. The Blue Jays confirmed earlier this week that he would not pitch in the club’s season opener against the New York Yankees at Rogers Centre on March 29. However, manager John Gibbons didn’t rule out the possibility that the 26-year-old could pitch later in the four-game series.

“We’re just trying to buy him enough time,” Gibbons said. “The shoulder, really, is no big deal, but my experience in this game says sometimes it’s better to be smart than stupid.”
