The Toronto Blue Jays are picking up their $8-million team option on slugger Justin Smoak‘s contract for 2019, MLB Network’s Jon Morosi reports.
Smoak is coming off a 2018 campaign that saw him lead all qualified Blue Jays hitters in OPS (.808), home runs (25), RBI (77) and runs scored (67).
The 31-year-old was named an all-star in 2017. He will become a free agent at the end of the 2019 season.
