Cashner is among a number of starters the Blue Jays are considering, says Morosi, and Toronto is looking to sign a veteran to a one-year contract.
The 31-year-old right-hander posted a 3.40 ERA in 166.2 innings for the Texas Rangers last season. Over the last five years he has averaged 26 starts per season with a 3.73 ERA.
A hard thrower, Cashner averaged 93.4 m.p.h. with his fastball last year. That said, he generated just 4.6 strikeouts per nine innings compared to 3.5 walks per nine. As such, his FIP was 4.61 in 2017—an indication that his 3.40 ERA might not be sustainable.
