The St. Louis Cardinals don’t appear to be a suitor for the services of Josh Donaldson.
According to MLB reporter Jenifer Langosch, Cardinals President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak said he “doesn’t anticipate” his club making any trades.
There has been plenty of speculation around the status of Donaldson, who reportedly cleared waivers earlier Friday which makes him eligible to be traded. MLB Network’s Jon Morosi had circled the Cardinals as a possible landing spot for the the Toronto Blue Jays‘ third baseman.
Donaldson, who was a major part of back-to-back trips to the post-season with Toronto in 2015 and 2016, has been out of the Blue Jays’ lineup since May 28 with a calf injury. He began a rehab assignment with high-A Dunedin Tuesday, where he went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk before sitting out Wednesday’s game with soreness.
The 32-year-old had a strong outing Thursday, hitting a home run. To add a little more intrigue to the situation, the pending free agent was pulled from Dunedin’s lineup prior to Friday’s game.
Friday at midnight E.T. is the deadline for major-league teams to add players and have them eligible to play in the post-season.
