Former Toronto Blue Jays left-hander Jaime Garcia is signing with the Chicago Cubs, the New York Post’s Joel Sherman is reporting.
Garcia began the season with the Blue Jays after signing a one-year, $8-million contract with the club in February. Acting as a starter for 13 games, he was then converted into a reliever.
In total, the 32-year-old sported a 5.93 ERA with 69 strikeouts and 38 walks over 74.1 innings pitched in 25 appearances with Toronto before the team opted to designate Garcia for assignment and release him on Wednesday.
Should Garcia wind up with the Cubs, he’ll join a club that currently leads the NL Central.
