A year after being released by the Milwaukee Brewers and getting another chance on a minor-league deal with the Toronto Blue Jays, Eric Sogard is reportedly on his way back to Milwaukee.
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports that Sogard is in agreement on a deal with the Brewers, believed to be a one-year pact.
Sogard agreed to start the 2018 season in triple-A Buffalo following a two-year stint in Miluawkee, and posted one of the best performances in the Blue Jays’ year after getting called up in mid April.
A .300 batting average, .840 OPS, 30 RBIs and 10 home runs with Toronto, as well as a shining reputation as a fielder, made him a valuable trade asset, and Sogard finished the season on the Tampa Bay Rays after a trade for two pitching prospects.
Sogard didn’t have the same success with Tampa Bay, finishing 2019 with a .290 batting average, .810 OPS 13 homers and 40 RBIs.
The 33-year-old was a second-round pick with the San Diego Padres in 2007. He played the first six years of his major-league career with the Oakland A’s.
