Giancarlo Stanton is one of the baseball market’s big dominoes this winter and a trade of the Miami Marlins slugger is taking a step toward reality.
The San Francisco Giants have made a proposal to the Marlins for Stanton, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
The Marlins also expect to receive offers from the St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox, Rosenthal reports.
Miami is looking to shed payroll and Stanton, who hit 59 home runs and won the National League MVP this past season, is owed $295 million over the next 10 years.
Because of the 28-year-old’s massive contract, it’s likely an acquiring team will want the Marlins to be on the hook for some money.
Stanton, a native of Panorama City, Calif., has a full no-trade clause and can essentially control where he plays next. His contract features an opt-out following the 2020 season.
