Spring training is rapidly approaching, but the biggest free agent on the market has yet to sign a new contract.
Bryce Harper is still looking for a new home, and at least eight teams are keeping tabs on the 2015 National League MVP, according to MLB insider Jon Heyman. Of those franchises, Heyman reports at least some of them are thinking of offering a short-term deal as opposed to the mega contract Harper is searching for.
Harper spent the first seven seasons of his MLB career with the Washington Nationals, earning six all-star selections along the way. He is coming off a 2018 season in which he slashed .249/.393/.496 with 34 home runs and 100 RBIs.
The Philadelphia Phillies have been linked to Harper throughout the off-season and the San Diego Padres met with the 26-year-old last week. A return to Washington has also been rumoured as a possibility.
