The Giancarlo Stanton trade speculation keeps getting juicier.
The Miami Marlins have agreed to a “general framework” of a Stanton trade with both the San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network. The deals are on hold while Miami waits to see if Stanton would accept either trade.
While the Cardinals and Giants have been the most active teams in recent trade discussions, the Los Angeles Dodgers are rumoured to be Stanton’s favoured landing spot. The reigning National League MVP can more or less control where he ends up due to his no-trade clause.
Miami is looking to shed payroll under its new ownership and Stanton is owed $295 million over the next 10 years. His contract features an opt-out following the 2020 season. The right-fielder posted a gaudy slash line of .281/.376/.631 with 59 home runs and 132 RBIs in 2017.
