The New York Mets are looking at Toronto Blue Jays vice-president of baseball operations Ben Cherington as a possible GM candidate, according to ESPN’s Buster Olney.
Cherington is the former GM of the Boston Red Sox and guided the team to a World Series championship in 2013. He was hired by the Blue Jays in September 2016.
The Mets have been without regular GM Sandy Alderson since June 26. Alderson took a leave of absence to address a recurrence of cancer.
John Ricco, Omar Minaya and former Blue Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi have been filling in for Alderson.
