The New York Mets are showing interest in recently released veteran Jose Bautista to shore up their outfield depth, per Justin Tasch of the New York Daily News.

Bautista, 37, was released by the Atlanta Braves this past Sunday, mere weeks after signing a minor-league deal with the team back in April.

Bautista played third base with the Braves, but the Mets would want him to play in the outfield with Juan Lagares and Yoenis Cespedes currently out injured.

The former all-star struggled at the plate with the Braves, batting .143/.250/.343 with two homers and five RBI in 40 major league at-bats.
