Major League Baseball and the Players’ Association have re-engaged in talks about expanding the 2020 post-season to 16 teams, according to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman.
The two sides had discussed the possibility of an expanded playoff field before the terms of the 2020 season were decided on last month. The standard 10 teams will qualify for a shot at the World Series under the current framework.
The New York Yankees and Washington Nationals open the campaign on Thursday, leaving a short window for MLB and the MLBPA to work out details of the potential new format.
