Report: Positive test delays some Blue Jays’ arrival in Toronto

Hazel Mae is joined by MLB Insiders Shi Davidi and Ben Nicholson-Smith to discuss the news that the Blue Jays will hold training camp at the Rogers Centre. Plus, what does this development mean for the potential of regular season games in Toronto?

The Toronto Blue Jays were given the go-ahead last week to travel north to Canada but not everyone made the trip over the weekend, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Per Passan, “a number” of Blue Jays players stayed behind in Florida after COVID-19 testing yielded a positive result.

Those players still in Florida will remain there until cleared to travel and join the rest of the team in Toronto.

The Blue Jays gathered last week at the club’s facilities in Dunedin, Fla., which is also where players underwent more extensive testing in order to clear MLB’s intake protocol and to satisfy Canada’s public health requirements in order to allow them to travel to and play on home turf in Toronto.
