Tampa Bay Rays senior vice president of baseball operations Chaim Bloom “seems likely” to be hired as the next general manager of the Boston Red Sox, according to a report by Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.

The Red Sox fired former GM and president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski in September, a response to Boston missing the playoffs just one season removed from winning the World Series.

Topkin notes in his story that The Athletic, ESPN and MLB.com have all reported similar news about Bloom’s connection with the Red Sox opening. Bloom, 36, started with the Rays as an intern back in 2005 and has worked his way up through the organization ever since.

Boston’s current operations team includes three assistant general managers: Brian O’Halloran, Eddie Romero and Zack Scott.
