Report: Yankees have spoken with Blue Jays about Marcus Stroman

Toronto Blue Jays head coach Charlie Montoyo talks about who he sees breaking out at the plate.

The New York Yankees have reportedly spoken with the Toronto Blue Jays about Marcus Stroman, according to the New York Post‘s Ken Davidoff.

At this time, no specifics as to what a potential trade between the two parties would look like have surfaced.

It must also be noted that teams having conversations is not the same thing as being engaged in serious negotiations. Talks happen all the time; that doesn’t mean a deal is near or that those talks progressed to a serious place.

But Stroman has been available for the right offer since last winter, and the Blue Jays’ struggles have positioned them to seek out any moves that may facilitate their rebuild. Combine Stroman’s reasonable $7.4 million salary and remaining year of control with his 2.84 ERA and 58.1 per cent ground ball rate and you have an appealing trade target, especially considering his big game successes.

Given that the Yankees and Blue Jays connected on the J.A. Happ trade last summer, there is recent history between the two teams, suggesting an amicable negotiating relationship that could fuel a blockbuster sequel this summer.
