SN Hot Stove: What does future hold for Blue Jays’ Donaldson?

Josh Donaldson‘s future with the Toronto Blue Jays is sure to dominate much of the off-season discussion around the club.

The 31-year-old third baseman has one more season until he becomes a free agent, leaving Toronto’s front office with a difficult decision to make: Trade the former American League MVP or hang on to him as the Blue Jays try to win in 2018, but risk losing him for nothing.

Sportsnet’s Ryan Dixon and David Singh joined host Roger Lajoie on the Sportsnet Hot Stove Saturday morning to discuss the matter.

“It’s tricky, because we’re talking about age,” Dixon said. “He will become a free agent right around the time he turns 33 years old.”

Hampered by injuries, Donaldson endured a slow start to the season. However, since Aug. 1 he has posted a 1.086 OPS with 12 home runs and 27 RBI.
