PHOENIX (AP) — Mark Trumbo hit his third home run and Dan Haren allowed two runs in five innings to help Los Angeles beat Milwaukee.
Haren gave up five hits and a walk with three strikeouts. The right-hander entered with only one earned run allowed in 10 previous innings.
Brewers starter Zack Greinke was even more impressive, allowing only two hits over 5 1-3 scoreless innings with nine strikeouts. Ryan Braun singled to improve to 2 for 19 this spring.
The Angels scored four unearned runs off Brewers closer John Axford in the seventh.
Trumbo hit a solo shot in the eighth against Francisco Rodriguez.
ANGELS (SS) 4, INDIANS 1
GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) — Kendrys Morales hit a home run out of Goodyear Ballpark, helping a Los Angeles split-squad team beat Cleveland.
Morales, batting left-handed, crushed a pitch from Josh Tomlin high into the dark Arizona night and over the stands in right-centre field. It was his first homer since May 29, 2010, when he belted a game-ending grand slam in the 10th inning against Seattle. He broke his left ankle by jumping onto home plate in celebration and missed the rest of that season and all of 2011.
Tomlin gave up two runs and six hits over five innings.
Angels starter Mike Shoemaker allowed one run and five hits in five innings.
CUBS 10, ROCKIES 8
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Geovany Soto homered twice and drove in five runs, sending Chicago to a victory over Colorado.
Soto had three hits, including a pair of two-run homers off Rockies starter Tyler Chatwood.
Colorado slugger Carlos Gonzalez drove in five runs as well, with a bases-loaded double and a two-run single. He also made a diving catch near the left-field line.
Cubs starter Jeff Samardzija was roughed up for seven runs and 10 hits in four innings. Chatwood gave up nine runs — eight earned — and nine hits in 4 1-3 innings.
DODGERS 14 (SS), WHITE SOX (SS) 7
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Matt Kemp homered among his three hits and had four RBIs, and Dee Gordon also had three hits as Los Angeles routed Chicago in a split-squad game.
The game was played in Tucson to raise money for the fund set up to honour Christina-Taylor Green, the daughter of Dodgers scout John Green. Christina was one of the victims of the shooting on Jan. 8, 2011, in which former Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was wounded.
Nathan Eovaldi pitched three scoreless innings for the Dodgers.
White Sox starter Dylan Axelrod gave up four runs and 10 hits in four innings.
WHITE SOX (SS) 6, DIAMONDBACKS 3
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — A.J. Pierzynski hit an inside-the-park home run and had two doubles for Chicago.
Pierzynski hit a ball that deflected off the top wall in centre and bounced to right centre for the catcher’s third home run of the spring. Chicago starter Gavin Floyd gave up two runs and five hits, struck out three and walked five in six innings in the split-squad games for the White Sox.
Arizona’s Chris Young hit a solo home run, his third homer of the spring. Diamondbacks starter Joe Saunders allowed four runs and six hits in four innings.
BLUE JAYS 7, RAYS 5
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (AP) — David Price pitched into the sixth inning for Tampa Bay in a loss to Toronto.
Price allowed two runs and four hits in 5 1-3 innings, reaching 96 mph on the radar gun several times in the sixth. The left-hander issued two walks, both to Edwin Encarnacion after the third baseman homered in the second.
Rays outfielder Sam Fuld left after striking out in the third inning. He has a sore left wrist, an injury that has plagued him since September, and will have an MRI on Monday.
Toronto left-hander Brett Cecil walked five in 2 2-3 innings, throwing 81 pitches. He gave up four runs and four hits with three strikeouts.
RANGERS 4, GIANTS 1
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Alexi Ogando pitched 4 2-3 shutout innings, Elvis Andrus broke a scoreless tie with an RBI single in the fifth and Texas beat San Francisco.
Ogando gave up three hits, walked three and struck out three in his first start of the spring. The right-hander is expected to be a long reliever when the season starts, but also could start.
The Rangers scored three runs on four hits off Giants reliever Javier Lopez in the ninth for a 4-0 lead.
San Francisco’s Brett Pill homered in the bottom of the inning.
PADRES 5, REDS 2
PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) — Edinson Volquez pitched into the sixth inning against his old team and San Diego beat Cincinnati.
Volquez allowed two runs and two hits in 5 2-3 innings. He struck out six, including 2010 NL MVP Joey Votto twice.
Padres first baseman Yonder Alonso, acquired from Cincinnati in the same December trade that send Volquez to San Diego, went 2 for 3 with a triple and scored twice. Will Venable and John Baker had two RBIs apiece.
Bronson Arroyo allowed five runs and six hits in four innings for Cincinnati.
