Jays confirm Stairs trade to Phillies

The Toronto Blue Jays have traded OF Matt Stairs to the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for a player to be named later.

Stairs, 40, is a 16-season veteran having spent the last two seasons with the Blue Jays. In 105 games this season, the 5-9, 215 lb. left-handed hitter has posted a .250 average with 11 home runs and 44 RBI. The native of St. John, New Brunswick is a career .266 hitter in 1,646 games with 282 doubles, 252 home runs and 859 RBI. He was also the 13th Canadian to appear in a Blue Jays uniform and his 252 career home runs ranks 2nd to only Larry Walker among Canadians.
