Tim Tebow will make his New York Mets spring training debut on Wednesday against the Boston Red Sox.
The former NFL quarterback will start at designated hitter and will likely get one at-bat against reigning American League Cy Young winner Rick Porcello.
Tebow hit .194 with 20 strikeouts in 62 at-bats in the Arizona Fall League against top pitching prospects. He’s expected to be assigned to one of the Mets’ class-A affiliates to start the season.
The 29-year-old has been working out at the Mets’ minor-league camp, but will play in split-squad games as New York sends 14 players from its organization to the World Baseball Classic.
