Bryce Harper just got paid big-time, agreeing to a 13-year, $330 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday.
And as always, Twitter was the place to go for real-time reaction to the biggest free agent contract in North American team sports history.
MLB The Show 19 was quick to adjust its cover to the 2019 edition of the highest-selling baseball game on the market, giving us our first look at Bryce Harper in Phillies stripes:
Harper’s deal will see him earn a cool $25.4 million per season over the next 13 years. Instead of creating a more detailed breakdown of the substantial earnings Harper is set to make, some are already encouraging their own kids to go out on the diamond and try to earn a big payday themselves one day.
Not a bad idea to try and get your kid to hone their baseball skills in hopes of one day earning Harper-level money. It’s a daunting pursuit, but hey, if you start playing the game at a young age and develop the athletic ability, anything is possible.
The duration of Harper’s deal matches the longest deal in Major League Baseball, with Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton being the only other player in the midst of a 13-year deal.
Some Twitter users joked around a bit in their attempt to emphasize just how long a 13-year contract is:
Harper’s new teammates, a former Phillies great and some other Philadelphia athletes were quick to welcome the team’s newest slugger with open arms.

Harper’s addition is the latest hammer to fall in a busy off-season that saw the team acquire catcher J.T. Realmuto, shortstop Jean Segura and outfielder Andrew McCutchen. Add those four players to a lineup already featuring rising star Rhys Hoskins and component hitters like Odubel Herrera and Maikel Franco, and it’s reasonable to believe this team is ready to contend for a World Series title immediately.
A new era of baseball in Philadelphia is upon us, which has Phillies fans already lining up to get their tickets.
Now, the only question is, how much will baseball’s top talent, Mike Trout, earn when his time on the free agency market arrives?
