Twitter Reaction: Molina’s chest protector, The Freeze loses and more

The 88th MLB All-Star Game was played Tuesday night with the American League defeating the National League 2-1.

Outside of the game’s result – which no longer determines home-field advantage in the World Series, by the way – there was a lot to take in both in and around the game and the social media reacted accordingly. Here are some of the highlights.

O *giggle* Canada

Remember the infamous Tenors incident from last year? Well, those guys were just given a run for their money by Calgary native Jocelyn Alice who, for some reason or another actually giggled while singing her own country’s national anthem.

Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi has the full details of the incident but, needless to say, there weren’t very many people who were impressed.

Harper’s got wicked hair

Everything from his cleats, to his hair, to an amazing catch and even a mid-game interview where he manages to ask about his Cowbys, Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper did a little bit of everything Tuesday night.

Molina was everywhere

St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina hit a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth inning and it was cool because home runs, generally are cool things – especially in all-star games. However, even better than the dinger was his celebration afterwards, when he tried to copy the signature Harper hair flip after going yard.

Oh yeah, he also helped Seattle Mariners star Nelson Cruz take a photo with umpire Joe West.

… And his chest protector was really, umm, something.

Smoak, Osuna have solid debuts

Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Justin Smoak had a solid all-star debut, going 1-for-1 with a single and a walk.

Fellow Blue Jays all-star first-timer Roberto Osuna also looked good. He pitched a scoreless seventh inning, giving up just one hit.

The Freeze loses (say it ain’t so!)

Nigel Talton, better known as The Freeze was in Miami for the all-star game to leave another helpless fool in his dust … or so he thought.

Shockingly, the virally popular Atlanta Braves groundskeeper-turned-awesome-in-stadium-attraction lost and there was much consternation as a result.

The AL won

Oh, by the way, in case you didn’t pay any attention to the top of this post, the American League won thanks to a dramatic Robinson Cano 10th-inning solo blast. So there’s that, too.
