Ranking 13th in the American League and 25th in the majors with just 38 stolen bases this season, it’s pretty clear the Toronto Blue Jays are suffering from a dearth of speed on the basepaths.
However, while the major-league club is stuck in quicksand, the team’s class-A short season minor-league affiliate boasts one young man who can really fly.
In a Friday Northwest League game, Vancouver Canadians outfielder Reggie Pruitt hit an inside-the-park home run against the Hillsboro Hops, and, really, the 20-year-old was so blazing fast it looked like he could’ve circled the bases once more and still reached home comfortably.
Pruitt was drafted in the 24th round in 2015 out of Kennesaw Mountain High school in Kennesaw, Ga. He was just promoted in June to Vancouver after spending the past two seasons in rookie ball. In 46 games with the Canadians Pruitt is batting .230/.295/.299 with seven RBI, seven doubles, one triple, one home run and 21 stolen bases.
