Greg Maddux is a Hall of Fame pitcher. He’s also a Hall of Fame prankster, which Kris Bryant now knows all too well.
The reigning NL MVP was in Las Vegas to shoot a workout video and get some batting practice in ahead of spring training. Unbeknownst to the Chicago Cubs third baseman, Maddux was undercover as a sound technician. The former Cy Young winner began to chirp Bryant from behind the plate, and after the batting practice pitcher had to “leave,” the “sound guy” volunteered to fill in.
Bryant thought he was going to get the better of the sound guy with an attitude, but instead saw some nifty curveballs.
It’s a good thing that Maddux wasn’t in his 1995 Cy Young and World Series-winning form, otherwise Bryant probably wouldn’t have launched one out of the park.
