Former Expos’ pitcher Pedro Martinez wants a Major League Baseball team to return to Montreal.

In a video appearance for ExposNation, a fan group promoting Montreal as a viable baseball market, Martinez said he is “praying to god that we get a team back in Montreal.”

In 1997, Martinez became the first Expos’ pitcher to win the National League Cy Young Award. Shortly afterwards, he was traded to the Boston Red Sox for Carl Pavano and Tony Armas Jr.

Here’s the message in its entirety:

Hi Expos’ Nation this is Pedro Martinez,

I’m praying to god that we get a team back in Montreal and I can finally make it back to Montreal and see all of you embracing baseball like you should. God bless you all. I love you all and hopefully we will get a team in Montreal. Please, please, please and a stadium. Thank you. I love you all.
