Girardi: A-Rod will play Sunday if feeling well

MINNEAPOLIS — Alex Rodriguez is still at least a day away from returning to the lineup.

The New York Yankees weren’t ready to take him off the disabled list for Saturday’s game at Minnesota. But manager Joe Girardi said he plans to play Rodriguez on Sunday against the Twins if the three-time AL MVP feels all right in the morning. Rodriguez went through another pregame workout on Saturday. He hasn’t played for the Yankees since July 7, due to a torn meniscus in his right knee that required surgery.

Girardi says he thinks Rodriguez has been looking good and showing improvement since he joined the team on Thursday.

The manager wouldn’t say whether Rodriguez would be the designated hitter or play third base if he returns to action on Sunday.
