Yankees fans boo Giancarlo Stanton in home opener

Didi Gregorius homered twice and drive in a career-high eight runs to power the Yankees to a 11-4 victory over the Rays on Tuesday at Yankee Stadium.

Yeesh, talk about a tough crowd.

New York sports fans can be a bit ruthless at times and Giancarlo Stanton learned that firsthand on Tuesday, going from hero to villain in less than a week.

After hitting two monstrous home runs in his New York Yankees debut, fans were clearly expecting more of the same during the club’s home opener as the fan base got its first look at its newest slugger on home turf.

Cheers quickly turned into jeers as Stanton failed to produce anything at the plate against the Tampa Bay Rays, with boos raining down louder with each strikeout. By strikeout No. 5 — a career worst for Stanton — things got pretty loud.

Even without any production from Stanton, the Yankees wound up with a big 11-4 rainy-day win thanks to Didi Gregorius.

At this rate, Gregorius better keep this up — or he’s next.
