OMNI to air Jays game in Mandarin Thursday

Toronto Blue Jays starter Chien-Ming Wang will pitch Thursday against the Boston Red Sox.

Regardless of what happens on the field between the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox Thursday night, some history will be made.

An MLB game will be broadcast in Mandarin in Canada for the first time ever when OMNI Television airs Thursday’s series opener from Fenway Park in Boston.

Taiwan native Chien-Ming Wang starts for the Blue Jays, who won one of three games against the Tampa Bay Rays earlier in the week. The Blue Jays recently tied a franchise record with an 11-game win streak.

OMNI Television’s Wei Lee will call the play-by-play Thursday with former Taiwanese baseball player Robert Wu contributing as the telecast’s analyst.

The game will also air in English on Sportsnet Ontario and Sportsnet 590 the FAN.

OMNI Television aired a Cantonese-language broadcast of a Blue Jays game in 2005.
