Tigers agree to sign first round pick Crawford

The Detroit Tigers announced that they have agreed to sign Jonathon Crawford, their first round selection in the 2013 MLB draft.

Sportsnet has learned that the college right-hander will obtain a bonus in line with MLB guidelines worth approximately $2 million.

The Tigers selected Crawford with the 20th overall pick last Thursday. The University of Florida pitcher recently completed his junior year.

Crawford, who turns 22 in November, pitched a no-hitter as a sophomore, drawing scouts’ attention. The 6’2” starter has touched 96 m.p.h. with his fastball, according to MLB.com.

MLB recommends a bonus of $2,001,700 for the 20th overall selection, or nearly one third of the Tigers’ draft pool of $6,467,400 for players selected within the first ten rounds.

Crawford is being advised by Jet Sports Management. Baseball America’s Jim Callis first reported the agreement.
