The future of Canadian basketball will be in Toronto this week to prepare for the upcoming U19 FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup.
Canada Basketball announced the 17-player training camp roster on Monday. The team will practice at Humber College on June 15-20 before visiting France to play exhibition games.
The World Cup begins on June 28 in Switzerland.
Among the players invited is Aziz Olajuwon, son of Hall of Famer and former Toronto Raptor Hakeem Olajuwon.
Other notable names include NCAA Division I commits Tristan Beckford (Arkansas St.), Efeosa Oliogu (Butler), and Spencer Ahrens (Boise State).
Florida’s Olivier Rioux also received a camp invite. The seven-foot-nine Quebec native decided to redshirt his freshman season with the Gators in 2024-2025.
Memphis Grizzlies centre Zach Edey and Indiana Pacers guard Bennedict Mathurin led Canada to a third-place finish in 2021. Canada won in 2017 with the play of tournament MVP RJ Barrett.
