Team Canada will be watching the FIBA Women's World Cup this summer from home.
Canada was eliminated from contention on Tuesday after an 82-76 loss to Australia at the qualifying tournament in Turkey.
The Canadians had one more chance to advance if Turkey won its final game, but Hungary instead punched its ticket with an 89-74 victory.
Canada could have qualified with wins over either Australia or Japan on Sunday, but lost both.
It will mark the first time since 2002 that Canada won't participate in the event. It placed fourth in its most recent appearance, in 2022, but went winless at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Canada finished the qualifying tournament with a 2-3 record.
Kayla Alexander scored a game-high 26 points against Australia while collecting 13 rebounds. Bridget Carleton added 17 points and Aaliyah Edwards chipped in 12.
Sami Whitcomb paced Australia — which is helmed by Toronto Tempo head coach Sandy Brondello — with 23 points, including a perfect 5-for-5 mark from three-point range.
The 2026 World Cup will take place in Berlin from Sept. 4-13.
