SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Calgary's Yvonne Ejim scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, Maud Huijbens had her first career double-double and No. 17 Gonzaga defeated San Francisco 73-54 on Saturday, the Bulldogs' 14th-straight win.
Brynna Maxwell was 5-of-8 shooting with four 3-pointers and scored 20 points for Gonzaga (20-2, 7-0 West Coast Conference), which reached 20 wins for the ninth-straight season and 23rd time in school history. Huijbens scored 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting with 11 rebounds and five assists, both career bests for the junior from the Netherlands.
Ava Keita had 14 points for the Dons (8-12, 4-3), who have lost 16-straight in the series. Jasmine Gayles added 13 points and six assists, Deb dos Santos scored 12 and Luana Leite 10.
Gonzaga had a 48-28 rebounding advantage and 16 second-chance points to offset 20 turnovers. The Bulldogs shot 46% (26 of 57) with seven 3s and made 14-of-16 free throws. San Francisco went 3 of 20 on 3s and shot 32% (22 of 69) overall and just 7 of 15 from the foul line.
Ejim had 15 points at halftime and the Bulldogs led 46-29, holding the Dons to 1 of 10 from 3-point range and 23.5% shooting overall.
Maxwell hit a 3-pointer to open the scoring and the Bulldogs never trailed. Ejim closed the first quarter with five-straight points and they led 21-13. She also had the first two baskets of the second quarter and capped a 19-0 run with a layup for a 35-13 lead.
The Zags had eight offensive rebounds at the break, scoring 11 points, and outrebounded the Dons 28-13.
Gonzaga had nine turnovers in the third quarter and was outscored 20-18. Maxwell didn't miss a shot and scored 11 points for the Zags, who were just 5 of 9. San Francisco was 9 of 20 but couldn't cut into the deficit more because of 2-of-6 foul shooting.
An 8-0 run late in the game gave Gonzaga a 22-point lead.
Gonzaga plays at San Diego on Thursday.
NOTRE DAME 82, UCONN 67 (WOMEN)
STORRS, Conn. (AP) — Freshman sensation Hannah Hidalgo scored a season-high 34 points and No. 15 Notre Dame beat No. 8 UConn 82-67 on the road Saturday night.
Hidalgo hit 14 of her 24 shots and had 10 rebounds for Notre Dame (15-4), which shot 55% from the floor against the Huskies (17-4).
Maddy Westbeld added 23 points and Sonia Citron had 15 as Notre Dame handed UConn its first home loss of the season.
Aaliyah Edwards of Kingston, Ont. had 23 points and 11 rebounds for UConn, which came into the game on a 13-game winning streak. Paige Bueckers added 17 points.
Notre Dame trailed by as many as 12 points in the first half. The Fighting Irish then outscored the Huskies 26-5, led by Hidalgo who had 19 first-half points, and went into the locker room up 44-35.
Bueckers opened the second half with a 3-pointer igniting a Husky run that saw UConn tie the game at 50 on a layup by Edwards and take the lead on a 3-pointer from the left corner by KK Arnold.
The game was tied at 60 after an Ice Brady free throw. But the Irish outscored the Huskies 22-7 over the last nine minutes.
CORNELL 83, PRINCETON 68 (MEN)
ITHACA, N.Y. (AP) — Nazir Williams' 20 points helped Cornell defeat Princeton 83-68 on Saturday.
Williams also had eight rebounds for the Big Red (15-3, 4-0 Ivy League). Chris Manon scored 16 points while shooting 7 for 11 (1 for 3 from 3-point range) and 1 of 3 from the free-throw line, and added 11 rebounds and six assists. Sean Hansen and AK Okereke added 12 points apiece.
Toronto's Xaivian Lee finished with 17 points for the Tigers (15-2, 3-1). Zach Martini added nine points for Princeton. Dalen Davis also had nine points. The loss ended a six-game winning streak for the Tigers.
TCU 105, BAYLOR 102 (3OT, MEN)
WACO, Texas (AP) — Jameer Nelson Jr. scored a season-high 30 points, including the go-ahead shot with 10 seconds left in the third overtime, and TCU rallied for a 105-102 victory over No. 15 Baylor in a Big 12 thriller Saturday.
Baylor freshman Ja'Kobe Walker hit a tying 3-pointer with 0.6 seconds left in the first overtime, but the Bears lost for the first time in four games at brand new Foster Pavilion. Baylor had a 10-point lead in the second half and a four-point edge in the third OT.
It was a third consecutive loss for the Bears (14-5, 3-3 Big 12), who couldn't hold late leads in road losses at Kansas State, also in overtime, and Texas.
Freshman Yves Missi scored a season-high 25 points, and RayJ Dennis had 24 points and 10 assists in the first three-OT game for the Bears since a 116-111 victory in five overtimes at Texas A&M on Jan. 23, 2008.
Toronto's Emanuel Miller scored 21 points and Micah Peavy added 18 for TCU (15-5, 4-3), the program's first game to go this long since a 104-96 loss in three OTs at West Virginia on Feb. 26, 2019.
Baylor had a 100-97 lead when Miller scored inside after a steal by Trevian Tennyson, and Nelson put TCU in front with free throws after Dennis missed a 3-pointer.
After Dennis scored for a 102-101 Baylor lead, Nelson, the son of former NBA All-Star guard Jameer Nelson, rebounded his own miss for the go-ahead bucket at the rim.
