The Chicago Bulls will have a taller task ahead of them when the franchise begins its quest for relevancy this upcoming NBA season.
The team announced Friday that forward Lauri Markkanen, who thoroughly impressed during his rookie season, has been ruled out six to eight weeks after suffering a high grade lateral elbow sprain during practice Thursday.
An MRI confirmed the injury.
The seven-footer averaged 15.2 points and 7.5 rebounds while connecting on 36.2 per cent of his three-point attempts for the 2017-18 season, his first year in the league.
From Finland, Markkanen was also named to the All-Rookie First Team alongside Ben Simmons, Donovan Mitchell, Jayson Tatum and Kyle Kuzma.
