Canada dispatched from 3×3 World Cup basketball tournament

BOCAUE, Philippines — Canada was ousted from the FIBA 3×3 basketball World Cup with a heartbreaking 18-16 loss to the Netherlands in Tuesday’s quarterfinals.

Michael Linklater, Steve Sir, Jermaine Bucknor and Michael Lieffers went into medal play undefeated, finishing atop their group at 4-0.

The loss left the Canadians sixth in their first FIBA 3×3 World Cup appearance.

Linklater and Bucknor led scoring for Canada with five points apiece, while Sir and Lieffers had three each.

Basketball’s 3×3 version will make its Olympic debut in Tokyo in 2020.
