This tournament will determine qualifying for the 2019 FIBA Under-19 World Championship – the tournament the R.J. Barrett-led Canadian squad won last year.
If Canada wants a shot at defending its gold medal, it will have to finish within the top-two of Group B and reach the semifinals of the tournament. By making the semis, a team will put itself in position to qualify for the world championship as the best three teams from this event will clinch a berth in that tournament.
Meridian Centre and Brock University will play host to the seven-day competition. This is the first time Canada will host the continental under-18 event.
